Northern Ireland squad to face Azerbaijan

Michael O’Neill has today named his 24 man squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Azerbaijan. On paper, the squad certainly looks stronger than the side that matched Portugal, making the 1-1 draw in Porto even more impressive.

Following an less than ideal start to the qualifying campaign, Michael O’Neill has announced his squad to take on the side ranked third in the world. Portugal are Northern Ireland’s next opponents after the Green and White Army took just one point from their opening two points of the game.

Five days after the World Cup qualifying campaign started, all six teams were back in action. Russia and Portugal were out to build on their winning starts, while the other four were desperate for their first three point haul of the group. The three games produced 11 yellow cards, no dismissals, far too many offsides and nine goals.
